P.C.M.C, or Para Chloro Meta Cresol, also known as 4-Chloro-3-methylphenol, is a white to off white crystalline compound which also serves as a preservative in many products. It has disinfectant, antiseptic and bactericidal properties. It kills bacteria, and prevents microbial growth. It is also used in various pharmaceutical products to increase their shelf life.
It is only slightly soluble in water, but soluble in alkalies, organic solvents, fats, and oils.
