Used in cosmetic and personal care products such as sunscreens, lotions, shampoo, soap, conditioner, scrubs, sanitizers etc.
Uses
Cocamide DEA exhibits high electrolyte tolerance and therefore improves the performance of many surfactants in hard water.
It also increases the foam volume in products, therefore making them feel more luxurious.
Benefits
• Boosts foaming ability as well as stabilizes the foam & emulsion
• Thickens the water phase of cosmetics and keeps ingredients blended
• Enhances the performance of conditioners and cleansing agents
• Less drying than other surfactants
Usage Rate
May be used in concentrations ranging from 1-25%
Strengths
CDEA is an excellent decontamination, wetting, dispersion, and antistatic agent.
Caution
Cocamide DEA, or cocamide di ethanolamine, is a di ethanolamide made by reacting the mixture of fatty acids from coconut oil with di ethanolamine. Di ethanolamides are common ingredients used in cosmetics to act as foaming agents or as emulsifiers. Diethanolamine is an amino alcohol used for acid neutralization & pH adjustment and to make cosmetic products creamy. Coco DI is a viscous amber-coloured liquid. It may be compounded with anionic surfactants to increase the foaming ability in rinse-off products or stabilize the foam of a surfactant. The resultant foam is more stable and affluent which increases the washing effect. It may increase the viscosity of an aqueous (water based) solution and is soluble in oil as well.
