Strengths

Highly useful compound in its anhydrous, as well as hydrated form.

Caution

Calcium Sulfate, is a naturally occurring calcium salt commonly known in its dihydrate form, which appears as a white or colourless powder called gypsum. When gypsum is heated to about 120°C, it loses three-quarters of its water, becoming the widely-used Plaster of Paris (PoP). If mixed with water, Plaster of Paris may be molded into shapes before it hardens by recrystallizing to dihydrate form. It is also universally added to ground cement to control "flash set", retarding the initial setting time of the concrete for better workability.

Calcium sulphate is insoluble in water and most organic solvents.
