Used in the process of sewage treatment, as a clarifying agent or as a flocculant.
Also used in the paper industry during the Kraft process of converting wood into wood pulp, and in pesticides, hair care products, and the manufacture of ebonite.
The production of many plastics involves the use of calcium hydroxide as an ingredient.
Uses
Calcium hydroxide is used in industrial settings such as the treatment of waste, the manufacturing of paper, building and processing of food.
It is used in chemistry lab for the preparation of ammonia.
Benefits
• Used in fresh water treatment for raising the pH
• A very important compound in the preparation of ammonia
• Used to treat flue gas emissions
• Helpful for acid neutralisation, water softening, and impurity removal
Usage Rate
The usage for this product depends on the nature of the formulation, thus there is no exact recommended concentration.
Strengths
Has many essential applications.
Caution
Calcium Hydroxide (Lime), commonly referred to as slaked lime or hydrated lime, is an inorganic compound with a white, powdery appearance in its solid-state, and a colourless appearance in its crystalline form. It is obtained by the action of water on calcium oxide.
Calcium hydroxide is used as an industrial alkali, as a component of mortars, plasters, and cement, in the kraft paper process, and as a flocculant in sewage treatment. It is odourless and is soluble in glycerol and acids, and only slightly soluble in water. When dissolved in water to a saturation point, it produces a solution called limewater, which serves as a moderate base.
