Benzophenone-3, also popularly known as Oxybenzone is an organic chemical compound that is the active ingredient in most over-the-counter sunscreens and other personal and skin care products. This chemical sunscreen agent is highly effective in slowing down the absorption of harmful UVA and UVB rays by the skin. It is a derivative of benzophenone, and forms colourless crystals that are easily soluble in most organic solvents.

Unlike many other chemical sunscreens, benzophenone-3 is highly stable. It is also commonly used as a photostabilizer, as it may also protect formulas from UV damage and is used in plastic products to block and prevent UV rays from altering the plastic and the contents inside.
