Application

Widely used in Sunscreens where it protects the skin from sagging and forming wrinkles.
In cosmetic products, avobenzone is combined with other ingredients and acts as a stabiliser.
Acts as a preservative in cosmetics, body lotion, hand cream, anti-acne products, and soap.

Uses

Avobenzone is used to lighten the freckles, hyperpigmentation, age spots, melasma and liver spots due to hormonal drugs, skin injury, pregnancy and oral contraceptive pills.

Caution

Avobenzone is a topical, broad range sunblock. It is widely used in sunscreens as it blocks UVA I, UVA II, and UVB wavelengths, thereby limiting the impact of UV rays on skin. It is also used in cosmetic products to protect other ingredients from deteriorating under the sun.
Since it is hydroquinone-based, it serves many other purposes in skincare. Avobenzone is extremely photostable and is an oil soluble ingredient. It inhibits the discolouration process by interfering with melanocyte physiology and reduces the recurrence rate of black spots due to sunlight or ultraviolet light exposure.
