Antimony Trioxide is mainly used as a flame retardant in household products like automobile seat covers, mattress covers, furniture, and carpets.
It is also used to make glass, enamel, and opaque ceramic.
May be used as a catalyst for making plastics.
Useful for ovenproof or microwavable plastic trays, and plastic water bottles.
Uses
Some amount of antimony trioxide may be added to lead to increase the metal's hardness. This alloy is then used in bullets, solder, car batteries, and organ pipes.
Vulmayises rubber to make it more rubbery and less likely to crack.
Benefits
• Safe for the environment
• Helps form less flammable chars in polymers
Usage Rate
The usage for this product depends on the nature of the formulation, thus there is no exact recommended concentration.
Strengths
An effective flame retardant essential for polymers.
Caution
Antimony trioxide is an odourless compound of antimony and has the most signifimayt industrial uses. It is made when Stibnite (an antimony trisulphide mineral) is burnt in air with calcium chloride to make calcium sulfate and antimony trichloride, which when reacted with water, forms antimony trioxide. This chemical is added to some flame retardants to make them more useful in products like electrical apparatuses, upholstered furniture, textiles, carpeting, and plastics.
